OK, if you are wondering what I am going on about with my excruciatingly bad rhyme in the title, I was listening to the Beebs 6 Music and they mentioned a site called http://www.musicatmyfuneral.com/ - yes that’s right folks you post the music you want played at your funeral…. It is useful really, as they pointed out imagine if you wanted Joy Division’s ‘Atmosphere’ played at your funeral and instead you got Russ Abbott’s, very nasty.
Still looking through the list, there are a good few people with the witty selections such as ‘Living in a Box’ and ‘Light my Fire’ along with lots of pretentious folk listing some piece of classical music they heard on an advert somewhere. Then there are those that you sit there thinking ‘eh’? I mean UB40’s Kingston Town for a bloke from Blackpool or David Bowie’s ‘China Girl’….I’m sure there is a reason for them, but I am not here to find out, I am here merely to mock and mock I shall as it was pointed out that it could have been worse, alot worse. Apparently The Daily Telegraph did a survey of the most popular non-hyms played at funerals and the top was….brace yourselves……. ‘The Wind Beneath my Wings’ by Bette Midler. Having said that, if I wasn’t going to be there to listen to it I guess it would be the best time to play it really wouldn’t it. It might also mean I get joined by a few more of my loved ones who suddenly lose the will to live too.
