Deliver Us From Swedish Furniture

….and lead us into Shenanigans

Archive for the 'Music' Category

You have got to love this, the Swedish answer to all those 80’s charity records featuring a plethora of the local celebs like, er that bloke from Europe and er a load of other people with the same shaggy perm, back-combed and sprayed to death…..so they save Africa and kill the Ozone layer so the next generation has something to make dodgy charity records about!!

Swedish Metal Aid

Posted Feb 13, 2006

Though it’s a perfect example of completely sh**ty hair metal, it’s a safe bet this Scandinavian benefit ballad rocketed to the top of the charts.

While on stage at the Reading Festival, Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ Flea yelled from the stage

“Sheffield United beat the f*** out of West Brom today. Go Blades! I’m just caught up in the Blades fever!”

For those of you that are looking around blankly, wondering if all those years of socks n’ drugs n’ rock’ n’ roll have finally take their toll, Sheffield United are a football (or soccer if you prefer…) team Read the rest of this entry »

OK, if you are wondering what I am going on about with my excruciatingly bad rhyme in the title, I was listening to the Beebs 6 Music and they mentioned a site called http://www.musicatmyfuneral.com/ - yes that’s right folks you post the music you want played at your funeral…. It is useful really, as they pointed out imagine if you wanted Joy Division’s ‘Atmosphere’ played at your funeral and instead you got Russ Abbott’s, very nasty. Read the rest of this entry »

Anthony Wilson died over the weekend from a heart attack, seeminlgy not related to his cancer battle. Whatever it was that caused his death he will be missed. Much has been written about his involvement in Manchester’s music scene, from Joy Division to New Order to Happy Mondays to Factory Records, but he was also heavily involved in the promotion of Manchester and the North East. More that this, he was not a wide-boy or chancer, he was a true believer in the things he did - not only would he stand up and promote the music and culture of Manchester, he promoted music in general to anyone that would listen. When asked by some US bigwigs about the music scene in the US, he turned around and said he thought they were putting out rubbish and were compleetely undervaluing the home-grown Chicago House scene.

He was a controversial character, but knew this was how legends are made and he is one, without doubt.

I found this on the Guardian website. Being the Guardian it is a bit pretentious (an accusation they throw at several of the covers too…) but there are some nice ones in there. However what I wanted were far more of the likes of the Budgie album. I mean there is a huge raft of albums in there to take the pee out of from the 70s (remember Blind Faith?) , the hair and thrash metal bands of the 80s (the insightful and thought provoking Warrant)and the recent bitches and bling R&B/rap covers (Akon or R Kelly anyone, thought not?) - far more obvious, but far more funny than some of the ones they have in there

Thriller-pines

Yes, this is what it looks like, 1500 inmates in a a Phillippine prison practising the steps to Thriller…..I wish I could think of something pithy to write here, but words really do fail me!

I found this post courtesy of Digg. The post linked to at the bottom marked ‘read more’ lists out the alternative cheapo MP3 sites out there now AllOfMP3 has died.

I have some serious issues with much of the way the music industry has dealt with the move to digital music. They simply do not seem to have grasped the basic concepts of how to keep your end-users on side while making more money - that’s right kids, make it cheap! Read the rest of this entry »

I have to admit, I don’t really bother much with Glasto these days as it has lost any appeal for me. Nowadays it is so similar to the other festivals out there, just with added mud…which is fine if you like that sort of thing. Luckily, it is run by Michael Eavis who seems to agree saying it has become, “too middle-aged” and “respectable.” Adding “We’re trying to get the youngsters back — the 16, 17 and 18-year-olds — because numbers were down this year.”

He has suggested making more tickets available through phone-lines rather than the internet as the middle class types have better access to t’internet (this actually says alot that it is now assumed that the older generation have better technology than the young whipper-snappers!) and the phone-lines will allow kids to use their mobiles to get through and order tickets. This maybe true, but you are not looking to encourage a different crowd to book tickets, you are looking to disuade a certain crowd. How to do this though? Read the rest of this entry »

XX Teen-age Daydream

Well, by having a title like that I should have picked up some dodgy traffic from search engines from people typing in xxx teens - well that’s sure to have done it ;-)

Anyway XX Teens are a bit on the, being politically correct about this, mental side. The tune Darlin’ sounds like The Go Team having a fight with a bunch of Windies fans in a Casio superstore….and the video is about as sane! I’ve included a link to both the video of the ‘normal’ version and the turbo-charged-nutter version, so sit back, take your medicine and enjoy….
