I was thumbing my way through my local bookstore, pretending I was Xmas shopping, and found ‘I lick my cheese’ - a collection of notes left for house mates…talk about memories flooding back! Through the fog of my premature senility the memories of being a student in London and coming home to find one of my housemates had invited everyone from her boyfriend’s squat to crash ‘for a few days’ after they got evicted. Still looking on the bright side, when you are forced to share a place with a load of crusties, at least there aren’t many queues for the bathroom. Or the paranoid mother of a housemate who would call at 6pm every day and if her daughter was not back by then or if nobody answered the phone, she would call the police. Still I’ve also made some really good friends (and even the occasional, er, more initmate relationship!) from sharing places with people. In fact a little while ago I actually got a lodger in as I started working for myself and lost the social circle of work…no notes were exchanged at any point!!

Well I am back in the dark and cold world of the UK in the middle of November, having cleverly left Australia just as it was getting nice and warm and toasty…. Anyway to cheer myself up I went on a bit of random web-surfing (which has been hard to do lately as those nice people at Orange have screwed up my connection and then failed to actually do anything about fixing it for a week despite being on the phone to them every day….) and discovered a like minded soul in the shape of Pappa Jake….yes I know it’s nicked from Amelie and half a dozen other places, but it’s still a loverleee idea

Wot no domain name

I still find this amazing. The internet and domain names have been with us for a while and yet people still don’t realise the value of getting the right names. Imagine, if you will, that you are the people back in the 19th Century having made your stake to some land in the US. As more people arrive, the value of the land increases, obvious really. In fact back then the railway baron’s would forcibly ‘negotiate’ the land away from the owners when it became obvious what they had. Fast forward to the internet and domain names are essentially the same thing, but right now there are an awful lot of major brands that do not have the rights to the domain names relevant to them, just have a quick look here. Now some of them are people that have at least some realisation of the value of the domain they are sitting on, cowboys.com for example was a site that sells things to do with cowboys, but they have recently sold it to the Dallas Cowboys. However if you were sitting on Angels.com, wouldn’t you want to do a little more with it than that?

You have got to love this, Dubya is in Sydney for the Pan-Asian something conference thingy and the police in Sydney set up a ‘Ring of Steel’ around the hotel where he and other delegates were staying. However a cavalcade drove through several police checkpoints with the cunning disguise of having a few Canadian flags flying off it. Finally someone got a bit suspicious when someone got out of the car dressed as Bin Laden….this person should be hired by the CIA as at least he knows what he is looking for

Ahhh, after the joys of watching some non-league football and sampling the ‘joys’ of the half time pies, it’s good to see that even those far better qualified can make the odd mistake. According to this story several people, including a few players, were hit by a nasty dose of food poisoning at a party at Norwich FC. Now for those of you that don’t know, the famous TV chef, Delia Smith, is a director there and normally her company does the catering, but this time they thought it would be a good idea to farm it out to another company to allow her staff to enjoy the party. Hmmm, well that was lucky….or not depending on how much you like being doubled over a toilet bowl
